Our recent work:
Providing more than $100,000 in Covid-19 relief to Arizona’s vulnerable populations
Partnering with the Henry Luce Foundation, the ASU/Luce Covid-19 Rapid Relief Project funded organizations working with Native American tribes, immigrant and refugee communities, mixed status families, and minors aging out of foster care.
Supporting real-world educational experiences for students
As part of the Southwest Stories Initiative, the Center partnered with the Cronkite School of Journalism to fund students who, having lost their summer internships due to the pandemic, turned to writing stories on communities impacted by Covid-19. These stories helped elevate unheard narratives of agricultural workers, Native American tribes, incarcerated persons, migrant communities, and other Arizonans disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.
Deepening public understanding on today's most urgent issues
Since the pandemic began, the Center has hosted a dozen online events with scholars and leaders exploring religion and Covid-19, racial injustice and violence, and threats to the civic health of our nation. With speakers such as Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks and historian Jill Lepore, these events brought over a thousand attendees into conversation with scholars and intellectual leaders who showed us how religion, history, and culture influence our world.
